Social Media Copywriting: The Do’s & Don’ts
Warm welcome back, visitors!
So far, I’ve shared my journey with copywriting discovering it, stumbling through setbacks, and fighting that familiar feeling called writer’s block. It’s nothing scary, just the universe testing whether this path is really in you or just a seasonal habit.
Now, let’s talk about something very close to my heart: the era we come from. The world I grew up in is digital. Social media isn’t just an app anymore it’s a lifestyle. People have their lives laid out in front of the world through Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Twitter (X), you name it. And honestly? There’s nothing wrong with that. This is your era so live it!
But like everything else, using it with caution is always smarter. And that includes copywriting. Today, I’ll share some do’s and don’ts to help you stay rooted in authentic copywriting while still embracing the fast, flashy world of social media.
Do: Research the Audience
Before you claim an audience as yours, first learn what works today. Trends shift fast online. Social media gives you free access to people’s minds through Reddit threads, Facebook groups, comment sections, and even random conversations.
Talk to people you don’t usually get along with. Sounds odd, right? But remember, a majority of the market is built on different mindsets. A good copywriter listens before they write.
Do: Share Your Own Experience
If there’s one thing I’ll repeat forever it’s this: your personal experience is the soul of copywriting. Why? Because connection sells. People don’t just buy a service or product; they buy you.
And sharing your story doesn’t need to be overly emotional or painfully on-the-nose. It’s about balance. Be real, be human. Even if your stories feel small or “stupid,” they matter.
Remember: every expert was once a beginner with the same doubts, insecurities, and fears. Don’t hide yours. Share them you’ll be surprised how many people feel the same.
Do: Write Motivational Content
Once you’ve figured out your audience, ask yourself: what do they need to hear? More often than not, it’s motivation.
Motivation can take many forms:
-
Stories of people who succeeded after setbacks
-
Tales of unsung heroes nobody talks about
-
Your own “failures” that turned into lessons
-
Or even a smart little insight you’ve learned in daily life
Keep it simple. Keep it real. Copywriting is about covering 10 words with 1 powerful word. Long, dragged-out stories lose people. Sharp, motivating lines keep them scrolling.
Do: Study Your Competitors
One of the fastest ways to learn is to watch others. Competitors can’t give you your style, but they can open doors you never thought of.
See what’s working for them, then improvise. Don’t copy their approach twist it, reframe it, make it yours. Copywriting is a work in progress, just like you.
Final Thoughts
Here’s what I need you to take away from this: the world is not against you. It’s waiting for you to show up. Opportunities are never hiding they’re testing how serious you are about taking them.
And don’t ever forget: learning never stops. Every person you meet is a new perspective, and every new perspective gives you something fresh to write about.
Copywriting isn’t just about words it’s about being heard. And through social media, your voice can go further than you think.
